Nearly all in the story, with the exception of the mastiff

The Whisky Laird's Bed, IMO, was a much better book by
this author. Worth checking into.
Candlelight Historische roman 1078 .

I finished reading 'The Seduction of a Duke' concluding dark, and unfortunately the feel was rather underwhelming. The storyline is a classic ane and in the hands of a skilled writer can really sparkle and come up to life. Alas, 'Seduction' is painfully wearisome with painful plot devices. We accept a newly minted duke- Bedford- who is in desperate need of funds. On the other side of the Atlantic- we accept nouveau riche Mama Alva Winthrop who needs her girl to marry a title for family prestige. Bedford has a dark childhood and first marraige, and Fran (helpmate) is pining for another man and has a honey for bees. Sounds interesting enough, doesn't it?
Unfortuntely the execution fell apartment. I personally recall that when romance authors utilise the 'misunderstanding' plot device, where the hero fumes for weeks in self righteous fury towards heroine, information technology absolutely detracts from the romance and the hero. In this instance the duke believes that his helpmate is pregnant with another human's child- before they are even married he jumps to this conclusion- and this misunderstanding goes through till well-nigh 2/3rds of the volume. Now the fact that afterward one/2 of the volume has slowly gone, Fran directly tells Bedford she is not meaning with a 'Oh! how can you remember that about me?!' yet he still does non believe her.
The villanous ex mistress was besides unbelievable. With all the talk of British superiority and good breeding, did Bedford not think it a major faux pas to have his ex mistress who actively wants to bed him in the same house equally his new wife? I am sorry dear readers, simply that (to me) is a grave insult. Even if at the time Bedford thought his married woman was a 2 nickel trollop, the fact remains, his wife'southward money was paying for all the renovations at the Abbey, and he was the master of the Abbey. A true blastoff male person would accept had her bags packed and a carraige waiting to become.
Bsck to the misunderstandings- nearing the cease where Bedford overhears part of Fran'south conversation, misunderstands information technology (of course!) and so reports back to the family and then gets boozer. The skilful knuckles keeps acting like a silly miss who can non have a confrontation and a clear give-and-take for his married woman. What was difficult about opening the door and asking what the heck was going on? If at that betoken he chose to non believe Fran, I tin understand, only the fact that he slunk abroad all dejectedly to tattle to the family was soooooo not manly.
This entire book really reminded me of 'Whitney, My Love' merely instead of miscommunications that result in calumniating behavior from the hero, we get miscommunications that result in unnecessary drama from a wimpy duke.
And so all in all, I would not recommend this book for purchase. Of course one person'south slow moving storyline from hell is another persons romance, so hopefully the library can spot yous a copy.

It was quite an interesting story, at outset I did not really like Fran just she grew on me, I loved William from the start and the ending was a surprise.

Francesca Winthrop an American heiress is a shy immature woman who is more of a recluse than a socialite and known as FROSTY FRANNY! With a social climbing maman who will do anything to attain a championship....fifty-fifty sell her daughter to a Duke with empty coffers and a run down manor
All Francesca wants is to marry her true beloved - Randolph Stockwell a lowly barrister who conveniently was sent to Germany.
William Chambers the ninth Duke of Bedford is sacrificing his freedom to marry an heiress sight unseen to salve the Dukedom, he hopes at least she'll take all her teeth and be passably pretty. They find that they both exceed each others expectations and subsequently a few mishaps find themselves as husband and wife.
Armed with a naughty courtesan's diary Francesca is set up to seduce the Knuckles and get with child to return back to America as per the wedlock clause.
The allure is sizzling and William can't go on his hands to himself with his new helpmate he's convinced she'due south not a virginal miss just an experienced woman in bed-sport. Now he's wondering if she's in the family unit way with another mans child.
This was a great story, from the commencement we saw ii people who came together in matrimony from unlike backgrounds. Both are looking for acceptance and love, William has trust issues, the heat his married woman makes him feel is something he's never experienced and all he wants is to take what is his right as her husband. Lots of twists and secrets to be revealed keep the pages turning. A scorned mistress, blackmail a secret diary and abduction will test the fragile bonds of love for William and Francesca.
Fast paced and highly entertaining with plenty of heat you'll definitely need a fan.
I received a free copy for my honest unbiased opinion.
Ms. MacMeans delivers a story with interesting characters, an intriguing twist, mystery and some steamy moments which the residents and guests of the home thought were ghosts. That point fabricated me express mirth out loud. I have to admit that once I started this delightful volume, I couldn't put it downwards. I did non stop until the very satisfactory ending.
While this is second in the trilogy, information technology can be read as a stand alone. I have not yet read the first book, but will go dorsum and practice so at present. I look forrard

What a story, this is meticulous and is very complicated. The author has washed a truly marvelous job of taking all the details and making it into a superb, cohesive, even paced and smooth moving tale. The characters are interesting and believable every bit is their Knuckles of Bedford, William Chambers needs to marry an heiress. His father did not take intendance of the holdings. Francesca Winthrop is very rich, as is her father. She does not want to marry, unless it is Randolph nor does she desire to exist a duchess.
What a story, this is meticulous and is very complicated. The author has done a truly marvelous task of taking all the details and making it into a superb, cohesive, even paced and smoothen moving tale. The characters are interesting and conceivable equally is their dialogue. The descriptions of the surroundings, the rooms and the mural are beautifully revealed. The interactions between the characters are funny, empathetic and loving. I loved this book, the love between Franny and Will was amazing, the way they got at that place and to trust each other like they did. This is the first time I have read this writer but information technology won't exist the last. I was that impressed.
I received this ARC free and voluntarily reviewed it. ...more than
But besides if you were intrigued most the premise of this book where a courtesan's diary is supposed to be the centerpiece, you'll be disappointed to know the diary is forgotten earlier you even got halfway into the book. So nope to that.
Then naturally, I became very annoyed with the hero. Not merely did he need to grow some balls simply he never fully helped the heroine become over the "Frosty Franny" nickname others gave her. How could he non assist her, reassure her and how could the author not arrive a important scene in the book? What were her editors thinking. Weak characters are never interesting.
I then became very bellyaching with the heroine. She was much too forgiving of the hero for someone who had been betrayed and then often. Her demand to sleep with him to return back to usa and her onetime home fabricated no sense since she could take tried other methods to go back similar actually talking to the hero and reaching a compromise as mature 26 twelvemonth olds are expected to practise.
I admittedly hate books where the characters act juvenile. Give me a expert story with a mature hero wooing a heroine. I read these romances considering I need a believable "happily ever after" story. This story is not it.
...moreThe showtime volume did null to prepare the horribleness of the begetter. The previous Duke is a scrap of an idiot, and not fond of his second son's fine art, only he'due south actually a drunken buffoon. The summit to terrifying abuser in this seems not then well-thought out in that respect, as if the author wasn't sure what the side by side plot would be.
However, the book was rather proficient and the plot works. The author just has to learn how not to drop major pieces of the character's make-upwards and plan trilogies accordingly. Character continuity is essential.
